Son Of Sunday Morning Funnies (King Kirby 091)

Sunday Morning Funnies. You know how this works by now, right? Them toony thangs.

So let's get right to it with an Odd Jack Kirby drawn strip from Cracked magazine:

Okay. That was silly. But not as silly as this-

For today's main feature, we turn once again to Not Brand Echh. Back in the days when Johnny Storm was dating Crystal of the Inhumans, time came when...

Gee.... think Johnny Storm will show up on the Inhumans tv show? Yeah, sure.

Moving right along...
To wrap things up this morning, here's a 2-pager intended for the never published 2nd issue of In The Days Of The Mob. It looks like Jack was joining (replacing?) Sergio Aragones in the comedy department for that next issue...

Now go enjoy your day with a smile.

The King And More (King Kirby 077)

I promised more of our Kirby In Comics feature today, and we've got some good ones to fill that promise.
Going back to late 1968 and early '69 in Not Brand Echh #s 11, 12, & 13, let's start with a trinity of parodies of The King -

Of course, there was that time Alan Moore had Supreme meet Jack Kirby...

Just gotta love that tribute to one of Jack Kirby's greatest covers:

Of course, how does Moore treat The King inside? Let's look and see...

Whole Lotta Love there. Almost called Jack Kirby God or something.
Of course, there's that time the Fantastic Four actually met God...

...and from a meta standpoint, it's an inarguable truth.

Jack Kirby stars in Not Brand Echh #s 11, 12, & 13 (1968-9), Supreme: The Return #6 (2000), and Fantastic Four #511 (2004)

Kirby Komics (King Kirby 075)

Welcome once again to Sunday Morning Funnies. For our first selection this morning, let's jump all the way back to 1947, to Punch & Judy Comics, v.3 #1. Jack Kirby is drawing Earl, The Rich Rabbit, a precursor to Disney's Uncle Scrooge, who debuted the following year-

I have to say, this makes me want to see more Jack Kirby cartoon work. He would have kicked ass in this market, too.
How about some parody work? In Crazy, Man, Crazy magazine, he illustrated an adaptation of the 1955 John Wayne film, Blood Alley, in a piece entitled

BLOODSHOT ALLEY

The piece included text that stood separate from the illustrated adaptation, so we'll ignore it. Jack's illustrations are covered with the captions:

Okay, some of our readers >*cough cough*< might be less than thrilled reading a parody of something they've never seen; probably never heard of. So how about we wrap up today's funnies with a Jack Kirby drawn parody of one of his popular Marvel creations?

Now go thou forth and smile this day!
